40th Annual Graveyard Launch

Please join us to enjoy the very first taste of our highly anticipated 2022 Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz, to be released in true Brokenwood style at our 40th Annual Graveyard Launch on Saturday, 25th May 2024.

The very first Graveyard Launch was held in May of 1984 with the release of the 1983 Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz (the first single vineyard made). The launch was, and still is, a celebratory occasion to 'enjoy great wine and have fun' while counting our lucky stars that we are able to produce the wine we do from this iconic site. The event provided a platform for wine enthusiasts, industry professionals, and members of the community to come together and appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship behind Brokenwood Wines.

"1983 is the first vintage of the expanded and modernised Brokenwood. A new air-conditioned shed, press, and refrigeration all have an immediate impact on wine style, both old and first vintage ones. The inaugural vintage of winemaker/manager Iain Riggs.

The shiraz, small berries and concentrated (the wine when young was deep black) now still vibrant deep colour with red cherry edges. Muscly, drought-year aromas of tar, smoky briar and dry leather. The fruit sweetness giving way to complex aged characters. The dry tannins with ‘lemon twist’ American oak carry the flavours to give reasonable balance and length.

The Brokenwood Shareholders and Staff will be ready to serve up our newest release wines and a delicious lunch prepared by the one and only Chef Robert Molines and his team from Bistro Molines. Commencing at 11:30 am, we have a lineup of entertainment that will add to the all-round fun and frivolity of a day to remember! 

Members are welcome to book a table of up to 10 of their fellow wine-loving friends. 

If you wish to visit us while you stay in the Hunter Valley, aside from the Graveyard Launch - we encourage you to pre-book The Wood Restaurant, Terrace Wine Bar or a Cellar Door experience to avoid disappointment.
