The seventh bottling of the Wade Block 2 from McLaren flat. Grown in deep sand, this is an amazing vineyard in that it is approximately ten years old, but planted with cuttings sourced from a very old local vineyard and own roots. Again, very distinctive and complex, and more than qualifies for the ‘Single Vineyard’ label. McLaren Vale is one region that is noticing a change in climate with shorter vintages and earlier harvest dates. The area had excellent winter rainfall giving rise to an even budburst and then plenty of foliage. This was needed to combat the extreme heat that hit in early January. A challenge for growers but the good ones, and definitely including Derek Wade here, managed the water/heat and turned out some superb red grapes.
