2022 Hunter Valley Shiraz 1.5L
Hunter Valley, NSW
Lovely mid-depth colour with purple tints. Lifted red fruit and earthy notes on the nose. Ripe fruit and low oak impact on the palate, with the new oak providing a slight vanillin sweetness complimenting the berry fruit. The ripe fruit tannins are complemented by the natural fruit acidity, resulting in a very long finish for the wine. A stylistically typical medium-bodied Hunter Valley Shiraz from a very good year.

Wine Profile
Vinification
The process involves using both vinomatic fermenters and open-top fermenters with a capacity of 2-4 tonnes. The open-top fermenters are plunged twice daily. After five days, the wine is pressed off, and
malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. The wine then
matures in 100% French oak, which consists of 25% puncheons and 25% new oak overall.
All Shiraz grapes are sourced exclusively from our managed vineyards: the Graveyard Vineyard, Oakey Creek, Mistress Block, Verona, and the Tallawanta Vineyards.
Winemaker Comments
The season resembled 2021 in many ways, but it was overall of higher quality. La NiƱa once again contributed to a cool, wet season, though consistent breezes helped keep the canopy dry and disease at bay.
By the end of November, Pokolbin had already received its annual rainfall, making it the wettest November on record, with a total of 956 mm for 2021. This harvest was one of the latest in many years for the Hunter, and picking took place under cool, cloudy skies.
Food Pairing
Veal, duck and cheese.
Drink
