2022 Hunter Valley Shiraz
Hunter Valley, NSW
Lovely mid-depth colour with purple tints. Lifted red fruit and earthy notes on the nose. Ripe fruit and low oak impact on the palate, with the new oak providing a slight vanillin sweetness complimenting the berry fruit. The ripe fruit tannins are complimented by the natural fruit acidity to give a very long finish to the wine. Typical medium-bodied Hunter Valley Shiraz from a very good year.

Wine Profile
Vinification
Part vinomatic and part open top 2-4 tonne fermenters. The latter plunged two times per day. After 5 days, pressed off, with malolactic fermentation conducted in oak barrel. The wine matured in 100% French oak, made up of 25% puncheons and overall 25% new oak.
The Shiraz grapes are 100% sourced from our Hunter Valley managed vineyards -
the Graveyard, Oakey Creek, Mistress Block, Verona and the Tallawanta Vineyards.
Winemaker Comments
A season with many similarities to 2021 but overall of higher quality.
La Nina once again made for a cool, wet season, albeit tempered by
consistent breeze, which kept the canopy dry and disease at bay.
Pokolbin had reached its annual rainfall by the end of November, with it being the wettest November on record. We ended up receiving 956mm for 2021. it was one of the latest harvests in the Hunter in many years. Picking was conducted under cool, cloudy skies.
Food Pairing
Veal, duck and cheese.
Drink
Drinking well now but will improve with further bottle age.
